About rates and shifts

How much does overnight newborn care cost?

Overnight postpartum care is $55 to $75 an hour, with an 8 hour minimum and up to 12 hours. An 8 hour night is $440 to $600, and a 12 hour night is $660 to $900. There are no extra fees, though a parking spot is needed. Daytime care is the same rate with a 4 hour minimum. Families searching for a night nurse or night nanny are looking for this care, and our certified postpartum doulas provide it.

What is the difference between a postpartum doula, a night nurse and a night nanny?

Families often search for a night nurse or night nanny when they want overnight help with a newborn. Those are older terms, and often what families are looking for are postpartum doulas who are certified, trained professionals. They are kept up to date on best practice and certified in infant and child CPR. You can expect complete baby care, newborn education, feeding and breastfeeding support, and check-ins on your physical and emotional recovery.

What happens during an overnight shift?

Your doula arrives in the evening and takes the night. If you are breastfeeding, your baby is brought to you for feeds and settled back to sleep afterward. If you are bottle feeding, your doula handles the feeds so you do not wake at all. Bottles and pump parts are washed, milk is stored, baby laundry is done, and you wake up to notes on how the night went. Overnight shifts have an eight hour minimum, up to 12 hours.

Can you hire an overnight doula so you can sleep? Yes. See our night doulas, and read what happens during an overnight doula shift, what a postpartum doula costs in the Boston area, and what families say about our doulas.

Not sure which one you need?
