What a Daytime Postpartum Doula Does

What a daytime postpartum doula does: infant care, feeding support, meal prep, baby laundry and looking after you, plus what it costs.

By Karen, Certified Postpartum Doula

The first weeks home are full days. Feeds, diapers, laundry, bottles, meals, and your own recovery on top of all of it. Your doula takes on what you need.

Caring for your baby

Your doula cares for your baby so you can rest. That includes feeding, soothing and sleep guidance, with infant care and newborn education along the way.

Feeding support

Whether you’re breastfeeding, pumping or bottle feeding, your doula helps. Bottles and pump parts get cleaned and milk gets stored. If you want only help with latching or pumping, our lactation support is $60 an hour, in person or virtual.

Meal prep

Your doula can prep meals so you eat well while you recover. Tell us what your family likes, and what you need.

Baby laundry

Baby laundry gets done, folded and put away.

Looking after you

A postpartum doula looks after the parents as much as the baby: checking on your recovery, answering the non-medical questions you didn’t want to bother the pediatrician with, and giving you room to rest. Sometimes the most helpful thing is someone to talk to.

What it doesn’t include

A postpartum doula doesn’t give medical advice. If something looks wrong, your doula will tell you and point you to your provider.

You choose your doula

Karen connects you with doulas whose experience and availability meet your family’s needs, and you choose. We’re a Massachusetts-licensed agency, bonded and fully insured, and we’ve provided postpartum doula care since 1991.

Cost

Daytime postpartum care is $55 to $75 an hour, with a 4 hour minimum. There are no extra fees, though a parking spot is needed. Postpartum care is reimbursable with an HSA or FSA, and we’re an accepted provider for Carrot, Maven and Progyny. See the full cost guide.
