Night nurse, night nanny or night doula?
“Night nurse” and “night nanny” are older terms. Often what families are looking for is a postpartum doula: a certified, trained professional who is kept up to date on best practice and certified in infant and child CPR. Read the full comparison.
What happens overnight
Your doula arrives in the evening and takes the night. If you’re breastfeeding, your baby is brought to you for feeds and settled back to sleep afterward. If you’re pumping or bottle feeding, your doula handles the feeds so you don’t wake at all.
- Baby brought to you for feeds, or bottles given
- Soothing, settling and safe sleep
- Bottles and pump parts cleaned, milk stored
- Baby laundry
- Notes on the night waiting for you in the morning
- Gentle routines that set your baby up for better sleep
